Erin Sun

Academic Programmes Coordinator

I am the Academic Programmes Coordinator at the VARI, working as the course coordinator the V&A RCA History of Design programme as well as supporting the museum’s vibrant PhD community. With a background in public international law and human security, I hold a Master’s degree from The Fletcher School, Tufts University. My research has focused on the dynamics of political violence between civilians during China’s Cultural Revolution and the role of memory politics in shaping historical narratives.

Originally from China, my academic interests span human rights law, global governance, and the intersections of education and social justice. I am particularly interested in how historical and cultural artifacts inform collective memory and identity, as well as their implications for fostering inclusive societies.

Before joining the V&A, I worked with the Sutton Trust Fulbright US Programme, mentoring low-income state school students across the UK and supporting their pathways to higher education in the US. My work has also included research on trade policy for the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and policy analysis for East Asia-focused think tanks.

I am committed to promoting equal access to education and inclusive environments, particularly in academic and cultural institutions. Outside of my professional work, I volunteer as an NSPCC Childline Listerner.
